What Do Trends Tell Us - 1713 Words

Study the Industry-Apply what we learn-Look toward the future What do trends tell us? Where is the resale retail industry going? What about attracting employees and keeping them? How do we get the right people? Where are we going and how are we going to get there? These are just a small glimpse of the questions that we face on a daily basis. One of the questions that I had a year ago when I first started this program was what will the trends be for 2015 and will e-commerce capture all the gains we were hoping to see? We continue to read about retail sales growth through online sales, which accounts for an increasing portion of the percent of retail sales, there has been an upside for brick and mortar stores, like ours. We have†¦show more content†¦We will see our customers go online on their cell phone and check on what we have said and then purchase the item there in our store, where it is convenient and they can try the item on and take it home that day. Our customers are ubiquitous in that we have to stay on top of their various purchasing trends and predict the movements that they are going to make on a daily basis. Sometimes we get it, sometimes we don’t. We have found that our customers want options that work for them right at their fingertips along with great customer service. We have found t hat â€Å"omni-channel† shopping (the use of a variety of channels in a customer s shopping experience including research before a purchase-Wikipedia, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multichannel_retailing) is not only on the rise, but also here to stay. We need to find ways to embrace this new shopping method and find ways to optimize their experience within our store utilizing these methods. A few strategies that we are considering are: 1. Improve our technological understanding and how they can improve our customer’s in-store experience. †¢ We have been looking into utilizing our camera system as a technological advantage by counting customers (those above a certain height) as they enter the store and using this number in conjunction with our actual invoices for a

The Picture Of Dorian Gray And The Great Gatsby Analysis

How should individuals satisfy their ambitions? In The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and The Picture of Dorian Gray, written by Oscar Wilde, the theme of desires is addressed. The Great Gatsby is a novel about Jay Gatsby, a man who wants to reunion with his past lover, Daisy. The novel is narrated by Nick Carraway, Gatsby’s neighbour and friend who witnesses Gatsby’s romantic desires. Similarly, The Picture of Dorian Gray is a novel about the development of Dorian, from initial innocence to ultimate brutality, after he acquires the ability to stay eternally young while letting his portrait suffer the consequences of his sins. Overall, the two books are similar in nature in terms of the themes presented. Initially, the two†¦show more content†¦When Nick is describing Gatsby’s elaborate parties, he says, â€Å"People were not invited – they went there†¦ Once there they were introduced by somebody who knew Gatsby† (Fitzger ald 41). Gatsby does not care who attends his parties, rather his sole purpose is to attract people and to make himself known in the community. In contrast, when Dorian hosts dinners, he carefully selects people to attend and handpicks the decorations. Through attending, people feel that Dorian has â€Å"all the grace and distinction and perfect manner of a citizen of the world† (Wilde 130). Dorian’s hosts dinners not to gain popularity, but to strengthen the admiration that people have for him. In general, Gatsby and Dorian differ in their aspirations for personal motives and images in society. However, despite the differences in ambition, both characters act sinfully. To begin with, both characters act heartlessly. After Daisy hits Myrtle Wilson when driving Gatsby home, she escapes from the scene. Later, when Gatsby hears about Myrtle’s tragic death, he says, â€Å"I thought so; I told Daisy I thought so. It’s better that the shock should all come at once. She stood it pretty well† (Fitzgerald 143). Gatsby is completely unconcerned about the tragedy that has occurred to Myrtle, all he cares about is Daisy’s wellbeing. Also, after Dorian shows Basil the portrait that reflects all his sins, he â€Å"rushed at [Basil], and dug the knife into the great vein that is behind the ear,

Research Strategy and Data Collection-Free-Samples for Students

Question: Critically review the article regardingthe research Strategy and Data Collection Methods Utilized. Answer: Introduction Each research study serves its particular purpose (Kothari, 2004). The research was conducted to establish, evaluate and relate the interrelation between customer quality views, operational processes and the amount of market share based on a food and beverage management standpoint particularly in casual eateries within Darlinghurst zone of Sydney, Australia. To achieve this, the research sought to attain three key objectives namely: exploring the effects between customer relation thought and service provision procedures, spotting issues associated with customer service practices and establishing the relation between customer fulfillment and market share attainment by comparing two Casual eateries in Darlinghurst. Critical review of the methodological choice In research, we have qualitative and quantitative methodologies (Neuman, 2002). The chief data collection method used in the case study is questionnaire which is a qualitative method of collecting data. The use of two distinct questionnaire surveys one addressing customer satisfaction items, and the other involving service quality items were quite remarkably efficient and workable. This is because it allowed the different respondents to give answers which were precise and relevant compared to if the two categories of items were mixed up in a single questionnaire. However, the significantly high number of unusable questionnaires from both the surveys is detrimental to the accuracy and objectivity of the general research. This is because the unusable answered questionnaires reduce the consistency level of answers provided in the questionnaires in that the number of sample answers required to make an objective conclusion about the overall study is quite reduced. This may lead to possibly subjective general findings. Critical review of the general nature of the research Nature of researches includes experimental and descriptive among others (Jung, 2014). Similarly, a comparative study is another kin (Guo Luo, 2004). The nature of the research is evidently exploratory. The study was conducted to explore the relationship between the operational procedures the degree of market share and customer quality perceptions in casual food joints in the city of Sydney, Australia. Based on this kind of nature, the research was able to commendably establish the exploratory factor linkage between or among those three aspects. Nevertheless, the nature of the study should have also incorporated other natures of research, particularly the descriptive nature of the study. This could have essentially clearly established and demystified the above-mentioned association to arrive at more comprehendible, simpler, detailed and objective findings from the research. This could be possible since a descriptive approach provides in-depth findings which provide a wider range of information or findings that can be best understood by an ordinary person. Additionally, the findings provide the basis for more enquires for further study in the future. Critical review of the research strategy Research strategies are diverse (Schneiberg, 2006). The research strategy, in this case, was a survey. Evidently, two sets of surveys were conducted in the study each involving a different set of research items. One involved survey items of customer fulfillment and the other one involved items of service quality. This kind of a strategy was quite fruitful in the study. This is because a good number of the survey questionnaires were usable in both the surveys and this provided fairly adequate data which in return was useful in establishing the findings and the conclusion. Additionally, the surveys were able to reach quite a good number of the sample population in the city. The number of respondents to the survey questionnaire was a good one since it can provide a workable sample for the entire study to ensure that the general conclusion about the entire population is more accurate and is indeed the true reflection of the whole population under study. However, the research strategy should have been expanded to involve other important aspects like the items of operational processes in those eateries. This would have given a deep, sound and wider picture of the holistic relationship between or among the involved study aspects. Conclusion The analyzed report may be substantially useful in the enhancement of the methodologies for project proposals in some ways. For instance, the findings of the report which is notably consistent, accurate, comprehensive and precise are applicable in facilitating the development of highly functional, applicable and universal research methodologies. This means that the employed methodologies in the report are applicable in enhancing those suggested in the project proposal. As such, it will be prudent for the researcher at any given time to ensure that the examples of the methodologies used in the analyzed report in this case study are in support or blend in with the nature and amount of data to be collected and analyzed in the project proposals. Of great essence is that the research methodologies have to be relevant, flexible to applicable in a majority if not all the presented circumstances. Additionally, research methodologies should have procedures, practices, and principles (Peffers, et al., 2007). References Guo, K. Luo, H., 2004. If our master doesnt give us food then what we eat Is usually what we find, and If we dont find anything then we dont eat. For slaves on the southern plantation let pretty much a never-ending life of work. Well Im hopefully done working now so I will be going. Goodbye for now! Journal Entry Two Dear Journal, its another day to write in my Journal. Im kind of liking this whole writing this, its like talking to a person thats Just listening to you and you can Just tell them anything you want and they Just sit there and listen to you ramble on and on about anything youd like.My rambling Is usually about work, my master, my wife, or feelings and emotions that I have bottled up Inside that I dont really have anyone to talk to about. I cant really talk to my wife about any emotions and such because my wife and I usually arent home at the same time, or we just see each other for a little hill, or when one of us come home and the other is sleeping. There is no time for us to ever talk, I love my wife with all my heart but Im glad we dont have any children together because if we did, my wifes work would be double d what It Is now. I would feel so bad for her because I already see her coming home rued as ever wishing that she didnt have to work anymore. Today I had so many things happen to me, I worked but after that I was verbally abused by my master. He told me that my wife and I werent worth anything and that the only reason why he still had us was because he paid good money for us when he bought us. After he told me that, I was quite sad and hurt. I wish he never told me that but I guess I had to find that out sooner or later.I dont even want to tell you about my work today because It wasnt that hard at home to the little squalor my wife and I live in and Just try to spend the no time I have with my lovely wife. Well I will hopefully write in my Journal tomorrow; maybe tell you a little more about my emotions and work. Goodbye for now! Journal Entry Three Dear Journal, I have so much to let out to you! The other night, I had an extremely intense talk with my wife when I went home. Once I walked into the door, my wife old me to sit down and that she had something serious to talk to me about.I sat down like she asked of me and I asked her if anything was wrong. She told me to hush up and listen. As she went on she was telling me that during the day while she was cleaning our masters house, our master started touching her in inappropriate ways. She went into more detail than this but it was so much and I was so shocked when she told me so I would not like to experience that troubled moment once again. So yesterday in other words, my master raped my wife! Once she told me that, I had no idea what to think, say or do. I was so afraid for my wife, I was frightened that what if my master did this once more; I wouldnt know what to do with myself. Tomorrow is another day of work, I dont know if I can take seeing my master. Knowing my emotions and temper is off the roof right now; I might not be able to handle them when I see him. Well Im going to spend time with my poor wife who I love very much. Goodbye for now Journal! Journal Entry Four Dear Journal, today was an awful day! I had to deal with my masters attitude all day and I Just wanted to kill him for what he did to my wife the other day.He gave me o much work to do, he made me do the usual work on the field and tend to his gardens but after that he had me clean the whole barn and tend to all of his animals. After that he had me mow his lawn for the second time in three days and Just made sure that I was never sitting down or taking a break. All I could think about was the hatred I had towards this man; he has made my life a living hell and made sure that he did it well. I wish I could Just have a free life with my wife to do whatever we felt like doing, but I know that would never happen. Hopefully my unborn children will have a free and Joyful life unlike my wife and I.
